Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka leads the tournament in France
World number two Japanese, Naomi Osaka, started her career in the French Open, today, Sunday, by beating her Romanian competitor Patricia Maria Teeg 6-4 7-6 in the first days (the second Grand Slam of the current season) to ensure that she appeared in the second round.
The 23-year-old Osaka, the winner of four major titles, sparked a lot of controversy when she announced a few days ago that she would not attend any press conferences in the grand tournament in the Roland Garros clay stadiums for fear of the impact on her mental health.
But this controversy did not have any negative impact on her actual performance on the field and she managed to outpace her competitor, ranked 63 in the world, in the sunshine atmosphere at Philippe Chatrier today.
Osaka quickly led 5-2 in the first set, but needed to break its opponent again to clinch the group after the latter tried to hold out and fight in the hope of returning.
The Romanian player improved in the second set, which Osaka finally settled in the tiebreak by backhand, to set a date in the second round with another Romanian, Anna Bogdan, who won the first round over Italian Elisabetta Cochiaretto 6-1, 6-3.
