More deadly than the black fungus ... the white fungus is spreading in India
After the increase in cases of black fungus among Corona patients in India, fears are now increasing about the "white fungus" infection, which may be more deadly, according to a report in the Independent.
And 4 cases of "white fungi", also called "candidiasis", were discovered on Wednesday at a government-run medical college in Patna, the capital of the eastern state of Bihar, which is witnessing a special rise in Covid cases.
The head of the Microbiology Department at Patna Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sun Singh, told Indian media that all four people infected with the white fungus showed symptoms similar to the Coronavirus, but their infection with the Coronavirus was not detected when they were tested.
He explained that white fungus patients had suffered from lung damage similar to that usually caused by a Covid infection.
Sen added: "After the white fungus was discovered, the patients were treated with anti-fungal drugs and showed improvement in their condition since then."
Officials have also raised concerns that the fungal infection spreads more easily from the black fungus to other parts of the body, including nails, skin, stomach, kidneys, brain, private parts and the mouth.
No other cases of white fungus have been reported across the country.
An official from the same medical college told reporters that the oxygen saturation level of one of the four patients diagnosed with the white fungus had also decreased.
It is believed that fungi are more dangerous for those with weakened immune systems, including diabetics and those who take steroids for a long period of time, and it is one of the treatments for severe Covid cases.
