German captain Max Kroes proposes marriage to his girlfriend on TV from Tokyo
Max Kroes, captain of the German national team, participating in the men's football competitions at the Tokyo Olympics, proposed to his girlfriend Dilara, during a television interview, after the team's victory over Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
Kroos, 33, took the microphone from German broadcasters ARD, showed a T-shirt with written on it, and sat on his knees after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia in the second round of Group D football competitions.
"We've been together for a few months, a year actually," Kroos said with a smile, and addressed the player to his girlfriend, who is currently in Germany hoping to see her meet. "If you can read this, I ask you if you want to be my wife?"
Kroos, the striker for the German team Union Berlin, explained that he planned this step initially, after scoring a goal in the Tokyo Olympics, but he was not sure whether he would score in those competitions or not.
Although the German team scored 5 goals in the first two rounds of football competitions in the Olympics, Kroos was unable to score during them.
Germany is currently third in the group standings with 3 points, as it must beat Côte d'Ivoire in the last round of the group, in order to reach the playoffs.
