The red carpet of the 73rd Berlin Film Festival witnessed the presence of superstar Helen Mirren, to attend the screening of her movie Golda, which participated in the festival.
And the festival management held a press conference for the film team. Actress Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar and an honorary golden bear from the Berlin Film Festival in 2020, said during the conference, about the character of Golda Meir, who she presents at work, “Golda was a heavy smoker, as she drank cigarettes all the time. And she was a fun and distinguished personality, she had an unparalleled mind, and with her love and dedication to work, she did everything she had to do and more, and she loved to buy household items, and I am like her, she was a distinguished personality for presenting it, and the movie is not her life in its entirety, but it is one aspect of her life.
Helen added, "I had to wear makeup throughout the filming, which, along with the clothes, helped draw the features of the character, and they helped me greatly in getting into the character."
Golda is about the dramatic responsibilities and decisions faced by Golda Meir, also known as the "Iron Lady of Israel" during the Yom Kippur War.
In the film, Helen embodies the character of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir. The film does not focus on Golda's life in general, but rather on a specific period in her life, specifically one day before the glorious October War and throughout the days of the war until the cease-fire, up to the signing of the peace agreement and her death after that.
The events of the film focus on that period only, so we find that most of its scenes take place in specific places, mostly in her office, the war operations room, and the Israeli reaction to the Egyptian victories that were being achieved on the battle front.
