Indian WION Network: Hiring a brunette actress to play the role of Cleopatra is a falsification of Egypt's pharaonic history
The Indian WION Network stated that the Cleopatra documentary series, which will be shown by the famous “Netflix” platform, which deals with the story of the queen, one of the most famous queens of ancient Egypt, embodied the character of Cleopatra in the image of a strong woman and a symbol of beauty and intelligence to the use of a brunette actress to perform her role, is a falsification of the history of Pharaonic Egypt; Because there is no evidence that the pharaohs were Africans.
The network added that the series sparked a lot of controversy and created a state of public anger and was subjected to major criticism, as many accused the makers of the series of exaggerating the allegations it promotes related to the fanatic "Afrocentrism" movement of the black race, at the expense of historical facts and the historical context of the life story of the famous queen.
The network reviewed some of the features of Queen Cleopatra's life, starting from her birth with a banker in 69 BC, until her death, pointing out that Cleopatra was the last queen of the Ptolemaic kings who ruled Egypt at that time, and she is of a Greek dynasty.
She explained that the Queen of Egypt was a member of the Greek-speaking Ptolemaic ruling family, her father Ptolemy XII, and her mother Cleopatra III is also white, and she is the sister of Ptolemy XIII, who was not described as black.
And the network continued, that although Egypt, because of its ancient history and distinguished location, fuses cultures and races, from all over the world, and many traveled to it for trade, and it was not uncommon at that time to see people of different skin colors and facial features, but Cleopatra is certainly She was of Greek descent based on her parents' race, so she must be considered white as well.
It is also important to note that Cleopatra's family intermarried with local Egyptian kings for several centuries, which means her dynasty was likely a mixture of Greek and Egyptian, rather than African as the Netflix documents claim.
She noted that in Western art, Cleopatra was often portrayed as a white woman with European features, such as fair skin and light hair, and was not in any way depicted as a brunette.
She added: Many, especially in the West, portrayed Cleopatra with Caucasian features, such as a straight nose and a narrow face, which is more consistent with her Greek predecessors.
And she indicated that there is no strong evidence to support the theory that Cleopatra is of dark-skinned African descent, and some historians opposed it, stressing that what the film embodies does not correspond to reality.
