Apple's Annual Conference: Our Products Will Be 100% Carbon Neutral by 2030
Introduction
Apple made a significant announcement during their annual event "Wonderlust" held in Cupertino, California. The company revealed its plans to expand carbon removal efforts globally by ensuring that over 300 suppliers use 100% clean energy in their production processes by 2030.
Global Carbon Neutrality
Apple aims to achieve carbon neutrality for all its products by 2030. The company's commitment to this goal includes expanding the use of clean energy throughout its supply chain.
Supplier Commitments
More than 50 suppliers from the United States, Europe, and Asia have already pledged to embrace clean energy practices. These commitments have had a significant impact on Apple's Clean Energy Supplier Program, which currently accounts for 90% of the company's direct manufacturing expenditure.
Environmental Responsibility
Sarah Chandler, Apple's Director of Environmental and Supply Chain Innovation, emphasized the collective responsibility to combat climate change. She highlighted the need for urgent action to reduce emissions and mitigate the worst effects of climate change, especially amid rising temperatures and devastating storms.
Renewable Energy Addition
Suppliers from 28 countries have committed to adding 20 gigawatts of renewable energy to the grid through Apple's Clean Energy Supplier Program. Recent additions to this program include companies like Sappi Limited, LeMur, and Schoeller Textil AG, bringing the total number of participating suppliers to 34.
By implementing these measures, Apple aims to lead the way in carbon neutrality, setting an example for other companies to follow in the fight against climate change.
