Scarlett Johansson has unveiled exciting updates on the development of "Just Cause," a limited thriller series by Amazon, based on the 1992 novel by John Katzenbach. Johansson, who stars in and serves as an executive producer for the series, shared the news during the premiere of her new film "Fly Me To The Moon" in New York City.

Series Development Amidst Challenges

During the event, Johansson stated, "Things are going well... the script is being written now." She added, "There was a slight pause during the strike, which delayed some progress, and we were all in a holding pattern, but now we are back to writing."

Johansson's First Major TV Venture

"Just Cause" marks Johansson's first major foray into television. In 2022, Amazon ordered the project directly to series for its Prime Video platform. In this television adaptation, the main character, originally a male newspaper editor named Matt Cowart, is transformed into a female protagonist. Johansson will portray Madison "Madi" Cowart, a struggling reporter in a Florida newspaper who is assigned to cover the final days of a death row inmate.

Personal Connection to the Project

Johansson has a personal connection to this project. At the age of 10, she appeared in the 1995 film adaptation of the novel, produced by Warner Bros., where she played the daughter of the main character, a Harvard law professor portrayed by Sean Connery.

Creative Team Behind the Series

The first episode is being written by filmmaker Cord Jefferson and writer John Wells, who are also serving as executive producers for the series. John Wells' production company is involved in producing the series. Additionally, the series "Just Cause" is penned by Christy Hall (known for "I'm Not OK With This" and "Daddio") and produced by Johansson’s company These Pictures in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television.

Potential SNL Appearance

Johansson also revealed to Deadline that she has not yet been approached to appear in the upcoming 50th season of "Saturday Night Live." When asked about the possibility of appearing on the show, she responded, "I don't know - you should ask Lorne."

Finally

"Just Cause" is poised to bring an intriguing story to the small screen, with Scarlett Johansson leading both in front of and behind the camera. Fans can look forward to seeing how this adaptation unfolds and potentially catch Johansson on "Saturday Night Live" if the opportunity arises.
