Leonardo DiCaprio Faces Backlash for Private Jet Escape Amid Los Angeles Wildfires
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, renowned for his environmental activism and campaigns to raise awareness about climate change, has come under fire for fleeing the devastating Los Angeles wildfires on a fuel-guzzling private jet, prompting accusations of hypocrisy.
Criticism on Social Media
According to a report by Radar Online, many social media users have criticized the Oscar-winning actor for leveraging his fame while using a private jet to leave Los Angeles, despite his image as a "climate warrior."
DiCaprio (50) and his girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti (26), were spotted arriving in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Friday, January 10, accompanied by his father George DiCaprio and stepmother Peggy Ann Farrar.
Escaping the Inferno
Their departure coincided with evacuation orders for thousands of residents in the upscale Pacific Palisades community, which has been severely impacted by the raging wildfires.
The fires spread rapidly due to strong Santa Ana winds and extreme drought conditions. By Monday, January 13, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported that over 12,000 structures and nearly 41,000 acres had been burned.
Rising Death Toll
As of now, at least 24 people have lost their lives due to the disaster, with officials warning that the death toll is likely to rise as rescue teams continue their efforts.
Balancing Advocacy and Actions
While DiCaprio has dedicated much of his career to environmental advocacy, many see his use of a private jet in this situation as a misstep, sparking debates about the balance between his message and actions.
